The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) as included in the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 was initiated to assist eligible entities in implementing energy efficiency and conservation strategies such as: reducing fossil fuel emissions created as a result of activities within the jurisdictions of eligible entities; reducing total energy use; and improving energy efficiency in the transportation, building, and other appropriate sectors. Starke County was issued funds from this grant to retrofit lighting fixtures in government owned structures such as: the courthouse, the county highway garages, the county EMS buildings and the county airport. These funds will retrofit 265 lighting units that currently have a total wattage of 55.134 kW. Upon completion the new total wattage will be 33.051 kW. This is a savings of 22.083 kW.
